NBA: Where Super Powers are Allowed

Back in the 90's nobody would have thought about teaming up with fellow superstars to try and win championships. But today is a new era and teams that can afford it, are willing to bring in 2,3 or even 4 superstars to their respective teams. In my opinion it all started with the LA Lakers in 2003. Gary Payton, Karl Malone, both whom were on the decline in their careers, decided to sign as free agents with the Lakers. They teamed up with Kobe Bryant, and Shaq. Four future hall of fame players on one team (they also had clutch shooting Robert Hory, and Derek Fisher). The end result to the season, no championship ring. Two seasons ago (2008) the Lakers made a blockbuster trade in acquiring F Pau Gasol for brother Marc Gasol and a second round pick. Once again the Lakers had a dynamite team. With Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, and the rising start Trevor Ariza. This team had sucess for the last two years (previous year without Ariza but with Artest), why becuase they had one scorer on the roster. Kobe Bryant was the man of the team, Gasol and Bynum banged down low and Artest/Ariza played the defense. This was a recipe for success. But now who can beat the Lakers? The Miami Heat sure are trying to.
With the free agent additions of F Lebron James, and F Chris Bosh, to go along with G Dwayne Wade, the Miami Heat have one if not the best roster ever to have lined up in the NBA. However, how will this team work? Who will get the last shot? Is their enough basketballs to go around? I feel as if this team is set up to fail. Three superstars, all scores, who have been THE TEAM for their previous teams now put on one team. They don't have the MAN on the team because that is not defined. Wade has a ring already, Lebron is two time NBA MVP, Bosh is a double-double machine, who is the leader? Both Wade and Lebron like to play the PG for their teams and always have the ball so how will this team get rolling? These questions will be answered when they start losing games.
Just recently Chris Paul of the Hornets gave them a list of places he'd like to be traded to, a top the list, the New York Knicks. This team would feature the best PG in the league with Paul, Amare, and in another year most likely Carmelo Anthony. Three superstars once again on the same team. This is a team I strongly believe will work, unlike the Miami Heat. For starters, they have a PG, SF, and PF. Of their big three, only one will play the point. Anthony will be the defined scorer of the team with Amare getting the boards and Paul running the fast break. The roles of this team would be defined with out a doubt and with Paul running the point, New York fans will have something to cheer about once again.
The NBA would turn into a three or four team race, depending on if you put the Magic on the list as well. Something should be done to stop teams from monopolizing the NBA. NBA: Where Super Powers are Allowed?

Skiles Has Options

Options is the key word for coach Scott Skiles coming into the 2010 NBA season. With the free agent signing of Keyon Dooling (PG, 6-3, 230) the Bucks seem to be done shopping for the off-season. The acquisition of Dooling was the last piece to the puzzle with the departure of Luke Ridinour to the Minnesota Timberwolves (4yr/16mil). Unlike previous seasons, the Bucks seem to be 11-12 men deep on the roster. Injuries to a player will not cripple our team this year. As of now the starting lineup looks like this:

PG Brandon Jennings
SG John Salmons
SF Carlos Delfino
PF Drew Gooden
C Andrew Bogut

I've seen two different types of lineups, but this is the one I'm hoping for. Having Cory Maggetti of the bench will provided us with a lot of scoring and toughness. I don't see Maggetti and Salmons on the court together often until the end of the game. Having to slashers and scores will only create a problem. We need someone who can spread the court and Delfino has proved he can hit the three ball. Our second team will be one of the best in the league. Maggetti will be a 6th man of the year candidate if he doesn't start. Here's a look at our second team/third team:

PG Keyon Dooling/Royal Ivey
SG Chris Douglas-Roberts
SF Cory Magetti/ Luc Richard Mbah Moute/Derrington Hobson
PF Ersan Illysova/Job Brockman/Tiny Gallon
C Larry Sanders

Depth is the least of our worries this upcoming season as you can see. Mbah Moute will play either the 3/4 positions and will be asked to only play defense, if Magetti decides not to. We also have a lot of size and should have no problem rebounding the basketball. The only question mark I can see is coming into the year is will Magetti play defense for coach Scott Skiles. If not, we could see a problem with an angry benched Magetti.

As always Go Bucks Go
